Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
